“One weekend this past February I noticed the forecast for NYC was in the 70s so I hopped a flight from the Second City. With Bowie as my inspiration I set off on a morning walk through SoHo to Washington Square park, listening to Young Americans, stopping at his favorite haunts and digging through record crates, when I came along the gate illusion by Scott VanderVoort at 42nd Bond St. The way it watched over passers by, dog walkers and businessmen headed to work, seemed to emulate his spirit in the city. Like he once said ‘I’ve lived in New York longer than I’ve lived anywhere else. It’s amazing. I am a New Yorker,’ and nowhere is his spirit more felt than New York City, it still feels like David Bowie is here.”@joshuamellin
